    1. The illustrations are adorable, but the story came across as a little preachy to me. Yes, I know the book is called God Gave Us Christmas, but the repetition got to be a little much. To be honest, I think I would have enjoyed reading the Nativity Story more - at least stuff happens in that. Baby Raptor tore the title page in half. I tried to preserve the page by putting it back in the book, but he continued to tear it out until I finally gave in and threw the half-page away. I'm still not sure w [...]

    2. I just finished reading this story to my 1 year 9 month old son and he sat through the entire story. He is like his dad, because he loves his stories. Not only was the actual story very well told, but the illustrations are fantastic. Having my son learn the true meaning of Christmas is very important to me, and this was a great story that he can grow with.

    3. A very sweet story about a bear cub questioning about Santa Claus and his Mama teaching him the true meaning of Christmas

    4. Ellie read this book to us. She loves this book and so do I. Jacob rated 3 stars. There is nothing better than curling up on the couch and having your daughter read to you about God!

    5. Loved the message of this book and that it doesn't completely diss Santa. It was what I was looking for to teach my girls about God and Christmas and how really that is more important than Santa. We still celebrate Santa and this book makes sure not to destroy the idea of Santa and just reminds the children that while Santa is great, God is Christmas. I gave it 4 stars I steaf of five because I felt a few pages could have been removed and the story would be the same.

    6. What a sweet little book! I loved how Mama Bear took the time to teach her cub about what was truly important, and how she (Little Cub) could find God in all of His creation. I loved how the Gospel message was taught in a clear, concise way so that children will understand. The illustrations were a perfect compliment to this storybook, and I will definitely be checking out more of the 'God Gave Us' series!

    7. Meh. It was a little weird. I love religious holiday books, but this was too forced. I do like the message that Christmas is about Christ, not Santa, but they keep saying (obviously) “God have us Christmas” and it was awkward. Then they go on a journey to find God, who you can apparently find because He is everywhere. It just didn’t make sense and didn’t flow. Oh well.

    8. Please visit my book blog to rate my book reviews: CurledUpWithAGoodBookSociety bombards us with messages about Christmas, from the stores that put out the Christmas merchandise right after Halloween, to the advertisers who would have us believe that we must spend a lot of money in order to celebrate. Lisa Bergren combats those messages in this warm and thoughtful picture book. She asks and answers many of the questions that children have about Christmas and Santa, presented in the context of a [...]

    9. The children’s book God Gave Us Christmas, written by Lisa Tawn Bergen with art by David Hohn, is a great installment in the “God Gave Us” series. In this book Mama takes her Little Cub and yours on a journey to find God. When Little Cub asks Mama if they can go find Santa she quickly shifts the Christmas focus to whom it belongs, God. She teaches Little Cub that Santa reminds us of many good things but come Christmas it is Jesus that we celebrate. You will learn from Mama that Jesus would [...]

    10. God Gave Us Christmas, written by List T. Bergren and illustrated by David Hohn, is a children's book describing the importance of Christmas and what it truly means. The story is simple and easy to understand and I think children would understand the meaning very easily. The major plot involves a young polar bear asking her mother questions about Santa Claus, who in turn decides to take her daughter on a trip to understand the importance of Christmas, and in turn, God. I found this book good to [...]

    11. God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren & illustrated by David Hohn is a holiday addition to the Little Cub series. Mia's review: I love Christmas! I love God too! and I love this book! My favorite part was when Mama Bear was tickling Little Cub, because it shows without speaking how God loves us. The Northern Lights are so pretty in this whole book! Now my review: The artwork in this volume is truly stellar bringing every scene to life. Mama Bear takes Little Cub on a journey to show him [...]

    12. This book is about a little cub asking his mom about Christmas. She teaches him that Christmas was invented by God, not Santa. Throughout the book, she shows different ways that her little cub can find God (i.e. the Northern Lights, a glacier, the Morning Star), and says that he can find God anywhere. At the end, she says that Jesus is the best present of all, and then it's Christmas.I liked this book because it teaches the true importance of Christmas. This would be good to read to a child to ex [...]

    13. Whenever I search for a children's book dealing with Christmas time, it's always a challenge and question on whether or not to deal with a book about Santa or about Jesus. This wonderful little treasure from Lisa's God Gave Us series makes it where there is not a choice, but just truth. Here, Mama takes time to show Little Cub in detailed images why and how God gave us Christmas and intertwines how Santa fits into the picture. I love the poetry of the prose and the pictures are fabulous and colo [...]

    14. Little Cub wants to find God, so mother shows Little Cub some of God's handiwork and uses that to explain why we celebrate Christmas.Definitely not your average Christmas picture book. If you're looking for a different approach to the Christmas story meaning, this might be for you. Personally, it didn't work all that well for me. It takes forever to get around to Jesus' birth as the reason for Christmas, and I am not sure I like that the Mother felt it necessary to go "look" for God when he is e [...]

    15. My children and I enjoyed the book and its vibrant artwork immensely. The questions Little Cub brought up lead to interesting discussion topics for older children, while younger children seem to easily grasp the theme of the story. As Mama points out, "It is God and Jesus that we celebrate most come Christmas. Was always want to thank God for giving us Christmas."The full review is posted at my blog, ashertopia. This book was provided free of charge by the publisher as a review copy.

    16. This book was sweet and had very pretty illustrations. My three year old loved it. She especially liked that momma bear took one cub out on their own to find God, and the other cubs stayed home. It gave a special moment for mom and cub to find God and the meaning of Christmas. I would recommend this to anyone with preschool or younger children although it would also make a good reader for a first grade level child.

    17. This picture book shares the true reason for Christmas through a cute story of a little polar bear and her mom. She wants to know if Santa gave us Christmas, so Mama Bear takes her on a journey that tells about God bringing the baby Jesus to us at Christmas time. She also shares a few other gifts from nature that God brought to us. Lovely story and illustrations for explaining the gifts of God to young children!

    18. We liked this book a lot and will probably buy it for our home library. We want to teach Xavier the true meaning of Christmas and shift the focus away from Santa. This book does a great job of this. Little Cub asks Mama Bear about Santa so Mama takes her on a journey to discover God and His gift of Christmas.

    19. "God Gave Us Christmas" is a wonderful book. The title is short but the book itself is so tender and elegantly written. A very sweet and tender tale of a mother and child making a journey in the beautiful outdoors while discussing God's role in Christmas. I've been reading a lot of children's Christmas books lately. This is one of my favorites.

    20. Little Cub asked questions to Mama bear, such as "Who invented Christmas? Is God more important than Santa? Did God give us Santa?" And Mama bear is showing her "God gave us Christmas" and let her "see" God at work, God all-powerful.

    21. The story in this book is okay but I know when I was a kid I was seriously annoyed by the whole "Christmas is about JESUS not SANTA" lectures and I'm pretty sure if I was a kid I'd be equally annoyed by this book. The art, however, is very cute.

    22. One of the BEST and most concrete descriptions for children (and adults) of how to sense God even though we can't see Him face to face!

    23. This is such a sweet little book about the story of Christmas. It's simple enough for even young children to grasp the concept. I absolutely love it and look forward to reading it every year!
