    1. Rona Simmons's book is very well-written. She does an excellent job making her characters, some of whom do some pretty creepy things, multi-dimensional, rather than all-bad. Her lyrical descriptions add a literary touch, without being overdone. The plot is well-planned and moves along at a crisp pace. She has clearly researched her topic well, giving authenticity to the early 20th century setting. Well done, Rona Simmons!

    2. This book had me holding my breath at times waiting to see what was going to happen next. Some things never change – people still get caught up with the wrong people, usually to make a buck. It’s good to have dreams, but you need to be realistic as to how those dreams could be fulfilled. I loved some of the characters in this story and many offered surprises as the story unfolds. Rose didn’t have the life she envisioned, but she was very adaptable in handling what was thrown her way.
