    1. Book Review originally posted here: iheartreading/book-touThe Shadow of the Unicorn II: The Deception is an imaginative, fun read for middle graders and tweens. I haven’t read the first book, but I didn’t have to in order to understand this one. So first, I’ve never read a book featuring unicorns before, but I love horses, so I wanted to give this one a shot. Writing from the point of view of unicorns can’t be easy. Even just anatomically, horses differ a lot from humans. They do feel th [...]

    2. I'm not usually a big fan of books with 'animals' as the main characters, since it's often difficult for the authors to get these characters to come across right. The Shadow of the Unicorn II not only did a good job in bringing unicorns to life, but did it in a refreshing way.I read this book, number two in the series, before the first one and had absolutely no problems diving into the story. The book starts with a young unicorn following his father, and as the first dialogue began, I was hooked [...]

    3. Once upon a time, in a magical land, there lived magical creatures. Like most animals, whether real or magical, they wanted to live and be happy with their families. Sometimes, however, dangers threaten and creatures, animal or human, have to learn who to trust and how to face their challenges. In Author Suzanne de Montigny’s novel THE SHADOW OF THE UNICORN II: THE DECEPTION, written for middle grade readers, we meet some of these magical animals and some not so magical humans. The book opens [...]

    4. I wasn’t sure I’d like this story about unicorns, since I’m not a “unicorn person.” But I found it delightful! I enjoyed it from beginning to end and wanted more! The main character, Ulysees is a unicorn colt. He’s smart, brave, kind, and thoroughly appealing along with the three other foals born the same time he was. He has a lot to learn in order to fit in with his unicorn herd, and the lead stallion is a dictator, making everyone’s life difficult under the guise of “protecting [...]

    5. Suzanne de Montigny's back and she's brought along her unicorns for the second installment of her marvelously entertaining MG fantasy series, The Shadow of the Unicorn. In The Deception, the characters have changed, old giving way to the new generation, but the powerful message remains: tolerance. Ms. de Montigny excels at weaving a fantastical tale of adventure, bravery, friendship, mystery. The books carry an important anti-prejudicial theme (uncannily using unicorns) and never comes across as [...]

    6. Great story told from the point of view of a unicorn. It’s a story that I grew up with told from a different point of view, although I didn’t find that out until the very end, which was a delightful surprise. Point for view is so interesting in stories. I loved that this was told from the point of view of the unicorn. Besides being the story I had heard, which really isn’t the part I knew. It is also a story about prejudice, acceptance, and trust. I give this story 5 out of 5 clouds.

    7. We watch Ulysees as he becomes a full grown Unicorn who battles humans, other unicorn’s false beliefs and a changing Earth. He also has wonderful experiences like meeting good humans, a beautiful unicorn named Alannah, and finding Unicorn Falls.Unexpected twists await toward an ending that will challenge your thinking.Hats off to Suzanne de Montigny for giving us a book that boys, girls and their adult friends will all love.

    8. You have got to read this book. You'll never be disappointed with the unicorn tales of Shadow Of The Unicorn books. It has a good message, adorable characters and a very readable, moving plot. Buy it now.

    9. Loved this one too!! Can't wait to have my two young boys read this series so we can talk about the morals Ms. Montigny smoothly slides into her novels. The lessons of tolerance for those different from you, second chances, and the pursuit of truth are just a few of the lessons learned in the second installment of the Shadow of the Unicorn series. A quick read for an adult, I feel my boys, ages 12 and 10, will really enjoy them as well. The books are action packed, the descriptions of the world [...]

    10. THE SHADOW OF THE UNICORN: THE DECEPTION by Suzanne de Montigny is the second middle-reader book in this series. It is set two generations after the “The Legacy” and is a stand-alone book. (Although I don’t recommend doing so, I feel that it is possible to thoroughly enjoy “The Deception” without having read The Legacy first). Similar to its predecessor, this book describes the adventures of a young male unicorn named Ulysses and his best friend Teo. They grow up together in a herd of [...]
