    1. A short take:"Hidden From the Face of Humans" is fantastic historical fiction. The characters have breath and voice and genuine humanity. The story is as intricate as the competing desires of strong-willed individuals. I got lost in this book, and I loved every moment.More thoughts:"Hidden" is remarkable for many reasons, the first of which occurred to me about one-third of the way through the book: the story within these pages is massive, complex--and fully contained within a single novel. I ca [...]

    2. Susan Slack asked me to read her novel "Hidden from the Face of Humans". It is a historical fiction centering on the 30th Egyptian Dynasty (three generations). I don't want to call it a mystery because this is not really a mystery but more of a chronicle but I'll get to that later. I will examine plot, character and polish. SPOILER WARNING!SPOILER WARNING! SPOILER WARNING! SPOILER WARNING!SPOILER WARNING!SPOILER WARNING! SPOILER WARNING! SPOILER WARNING!PLOTI like to call this a "dramatized and [...]

    3. This review originally appeared on my blog at gimmethatbook. This is a fascinating and well written book based on actual characters; the author states at the beginning of the story that only a few are fictitious. Evident right from the start is the undeniable fact that the author has done extensive research — the characters behave authentically and there is plenty of action.Thermafi, an Egyptian Priestess, is murdered in the first chapter of the book, and the story works towards discovering her [...]

    4. An epic tale of love, dynastic politics and superpower intrigue in the ancient Middle East.Hidden from the Face of Humans is a rich, many-layered story, spanning nearly a hundred years in the late ancient Middle East. This era, which takes us through the last native-born Egyptian dynasty to the rise of Alexander the Great, mirrors the type of superpower struggles that we see in the region today. The human story of the book centers around Themafi, a priestess of Isis, who becomes the close adviso [...]

    5. I won this on First Reads.I received this. First, I have to say I find myself impressed. I knew this looked like a read that I would enjoy and hoped my kids would too. I do not usually like to give a 5 out of 5 rating unless the book really pulls me in and transports me or of course is a classic. I am impressed this one earned the 5/5 so completely. As the family historian, I have a deep love for the past. I have instilled in my kids the love of history also. When I saw this book pop on my screen [...]

    6. A good story, epic in length and breadth. I struggled with the large number of characters and the many plot threads that often didn't resolve for a long time. On the up side, there is a character list in the beginning but I found I needed it more than I hoped. I found it distracting to have to consult it as often as I did.
