    1. This very short love story published over three hundred years ago seems plainly intended as a positive illustration of non-cisnormative gender roles. In that light, the book’s premise that a mother might simply choose to raise a child as a daughter and have that work out as it does at a minimum makes sense allegorically. At any rate, this was a delightful book: the other character whose gender wouldn't have been apparent at birth was also great, and the story was well-written, deeply accepting [...]
